Questions you might ask…

What kind of yarn can I donate? We are taking any kinds of clean yarn donations that are from a smoke-free environment, please. Yarns of any colors and materials that are soft to the touch are best.

When can I make my yarn donation? You can drop off yarn during the open hours of Leedy-Voulkos Art Center. Open Thursday - Saturday | 11am - 5pm located at 2012 Baltimore Ave, Kansas City, MO 64108. You are more than welcome to mail off a donation to this location as well. How can I make a cash donation to Healing with Weaving? We welcome any cash amount from $1-$2,500, a one-time or monthly donation along with the option of making a tax-deductible donation. Please click on this link for more information.

What are my donations going to?

All donations will help fund Healing with Weaving Community Outreach Programs which currently includes the making of Woven Repeat Frame Loom Kits that will be donated to local hospitals, medical and counseling facilities, along with communities of people and organizations that are in need to a creative avenue to help with stress, anxiety and healing. Funding will help with the cost of weaving tutorial videos and instructions as well as community weaving workshops.

What are some future 2022, Healing with Weaving Community Outreach Programs?

In October of 2021, we donated 200 Woven Repeat Frame Loom Kits to Children’s Mercy Hospital that was helped by ArtsKC Inspiration Grant, The Lordi Family Foundation and people like you. This next year we plan to hold community weaving workshops for staff, patients and family members of patients along with donating more Woven Repeat Loom Kits. We also plan to hold community weaving workshops for students and faculty at the University of Kansas.

We are excited to announce that Debbie Barrett-Jones will be doing a doing a collaborative Healing with Weaving Project with her 14-year old daughter Cora who is non-binary. This year especially they have been a target of bullying and isolation. It is in the beginning stages but Debbie would like to work with Cora to help provide a safe place for LGBTQ+ young members, both high school and college, to come together, share their stories with each other while weaving on frame looms. More information to come soon…

Why Weaving?

Stress and anxiety due to this pandemic have played an enormous toll on almost everyone's mental health. Weaving helps with slowing down, focusing on material, color, and pattern. When you slow down and focus on making something with your hands, you breathe more and this focus helps you think less about your worries.

Weaving and doing something creatively allows you to not look at your phone anxiously as well. The outcome of the finished product is not as important as the process of making. But in the end, you have this weaving that was created during the moments in your life that you chose to slow down and do some healthy self-care.

Your support matters and will help make a difference!! Thank you so much!!
